Voters Lists, Is there no other alternate?

We all are listening a lot on media about the voters’ lists even talks reached to Supreme Court. I am amazed why political parties and other institutions are not thinking on other transparent and non-controversial alternates of voters’ lists? I have recently discussed the matter with an official of NADRA, he told that NADRA can easily generates lists of voters even revenue village wise, Union Council wise and any other indicator wise, on a single click. These lists will be purely based on the data of NADRA which is duly verified by any of the gazetted officers during the process of CNIC formation. This is the simplest way which requires no additional budget and military & other stake holders’ involvement. As per law, each CNIC holder can cast vote so why there is a need to develop a separate voters list consuming time, money and other resources? There may be certainly political interests through which i am unaware as a layman.

NADRA data can easily be analyzed using various indicators and needs no additional resources. I would suggest technocrats, politicians, journalists to think on the idea using NADRA data instead preparing voters list.

  1. And I wonder “e” is prefixed to everything now a days but still we have’nt heard about “e-polling”. A large number of IT-savvy youth which does’nt / can’t move to polling stations on election day and sticks with TV and computers to listen the poll results significantly affects the turn-out. Why should’nt there be an e-polling option for them through internet wherein they should login with their CNIC number (not replicable) and cast their vote. In today’s life it should’nt be beyond practicability.
